With a tone full of regret, senior musician Fariz RM read his defense note or personal plea before the panel of judges during a narcotics case hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday (11/8/2025). He not only apologized but also revealed his inner struggle against addiction, which he described as the biggest mistake of his life.

This personal defense was delivered after his legal team, led by Deolipa Yumara, submitted a plea requesting that Fariz be released or rehabilitated, arguing that their client is a victim, not a dealer as alleged by the prosecutor.

"My biggest mistake was choosing to use drugs in my youth, which subsequently became a bad habit in me," said Fariz RM in the courtroom.

"Honestly, I must say that it does not interfere with my professional activities, because I have never used drugs while working, so it does not directly affect my reputation," he said.

"I admit I have a weakness where I often slip when I am under psychological pressure. I slip back into using again," he explained.

Facing the possibility of punishment, Fariz expressed acceptance and readiness to receive the judge's decision. He views this legal process as God's way of giving him a chance to improve himself.

"I believe that whatever legal decision I will receive as a sanction, God willing, it is the will of Allah that gives me another chance and opportunity to improve myself," he said.

At the end of his defense, Fariz expressed his apologies to all parties he has disappointed and promised that this would be the last time.

"I want to express my apologies because I regret my actions throughout my life and God willing, I am given the opportunity and chance to improve myself, and I also promise in front of the council that this will be the last time for me to continue my bad habits that may have been noted," concluded Fariz RM.
