Portrait of Ibrahim, Husband of Najwa Shihab, Buried in the Rain, Quraish Shihab: A Sign of God's Mercy

One of the figures present at the funeral was Quraish Shihab. The father of Najwa Shihab was seen standing by the grave in the midst of the heavy rain that continued to pour.

During the burial process, only male mourners were allowed to approach the gravesite. Therefore, Najwa Shihab, as the wife of the deceased, was not seen around the grave during the burial.

The presence of Anies Baswedan also drew attention during the ceremony. The former Governor of DKI Jakarta remained faithfully by the side until the burial was completed.

Izzat Assegaf, the son of the deceased, also stayed close to the grave throughout the ceremony. He even assisted his grandfather, Quraish Shihab, in walking closer to the tomb, accompanied by Anies Baswedan.

A touching moment was seen when Izzat, Anies, and Quraish supported each other after Ibrahim's body was covered with soil. The three of them looked solemn as they placed flowers on the grave as a final tribute.

The presence of the art figure Sujiwo Tejo also added to the deep atmosphere of mourning. The actor and artist arrived wearing a raincoat and carrying an umbrella, showing respect for the deceased.

Not only close family, but several friends and colleagues also attended amidst the pouring rain. Many of them chose to endure with makeshift protection to accompany Ibrahim to his final resting place.

After the burial ceremony, Quraish Shihab expressed his views on the heavy rain that poured during the burial. He saw this natural phenomenon as a form of God's love for the deceased.

“For me, this is a sign of God's grace. God says in the Qur'an, the disobedient do not have the sky weeping for them,” said Quraish Shihab after the funeral procession.

He then linked the meaning of rain with blessings for those loved by God. According to him, the rain that falls during the funeral is a sign that the deceased is well accepted by Him. “It means it does not rain. It means that the one loved by God, when buried, rain falls, it is His blessing,” said Quraish Shihab.

Ibrahim Sjarief bin Husein Ibrahim Assegaf passed away at the age of 54 on Tuesday (20/5/2025) at 14:29 WIB. He breathed his last at the National Brain Center Hospital (RS PON), Jakarta, due to a stroke and a burst blood vessel.
