Portrait of Marthino Lio Acting with His Wife in the Horror Film 'DOSA MUSYRIK', Challenges in Building Chemistry as Siblings

"This is the first time, shooting with my wife," said Marthino Lio when met in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, Thursday (24/10/2024).

Initially, Delia Husein was not planned to play a role in the film. Marthino even mentioned that there were several other actresses who were considered as his co-stars.   "At first, there were several candidates," Delia revealed.

However, Marthino then suggested Delia to join the casting. "He sold me. 'Hey, my wife too,' he said like that," Delia recounted with a laugh, reminiscing about her husband's spontaneous suggestion.

For a long time, Marthino has indeed wanted to experience acting alongside his wife. "I want to, I really want to. I just want to feel it," he said.

In DOSA MUSYRIK, Marthino Lio plays the character Nugie, a man who faces mystical terror after stealing a sacred keris from Mbah Narto, a famous shaman in his area. Meanwhile, Delia Husein plays Tari, Nugie's sister who also becomes a victim of her brother's actions.

In addition to Marthino and Delia, this film also stars senior actors and actresses such as Pritt Timothy as Mbah Narto and Yati Surachman who plays Sumeni, Nugie and Tari's mother.

Although they are a married couple, Marthino and Delia admit to having difficulty building chemistry as siblings. Delia even feels awkward because she is used to showing intimacy with Marthino in real life, something that needs to be controlled while playing brother and sister.   "It's really awkward because it turns out Ms. Hadrah (the director) noticed. Maybe because the intimacy of a husband and wife is visible," Delia said.

Marthino also feels that Delia's presence makes him more comfortable, although sometimes it serves as a reminder when he starts joking too much on set.    "I tend to joke a lot on set, so she acts as an alarm saying 'you've joked too much, let's be a little serious'," Marthino said while laughing.
