Prince Harry Sued by the Foundation He Established for Princess Diana

A charity co-founded by Prince Harry in Africa to honor his late mother, Princess Diana, is suing him for alleged defamation after he stepped down as its patron last year. Sentebale, which Harry established with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 and helps young people with HIV in southern Africa, filed a lawsuit last month in the High Court in London, according to court records reviewed on Friday.

Online filings show Harry and his friend, Mark Dyer, who is a trustee of the charity, are being sued for alleged written (libel) or spoken (slander) defamation. No detailed documents are available.

"This charity seeks intervention, protection, and restitution from the court following a coordinated negative media campaign since March 25, 2025, which has caused operational disruptions and damaged the reputation of the organization, its leadership, and its strategic partners," Sentebale said in a statement on its website on Friday.

Spokespersons Harry and Dyer stated that both 'strongly reject these offensive and damaging allegations'. In the local language of Lesotho, where this charity is based, Sentebale means 'do not forget me'.

Disputes began to emerge in 2023 regarding a new fundraising strategy. Harry and Seeiso stepped down as patrons of the charity in March 2025.At that time, they stated that the relationship between the board and its chair, Sophie Chandauka, had become irreparable, and they stepped down in solidarity with five trustees who also resigned due to internal disputes that later became public consumption.

"What happened is unimaginable. We are shocked to have to do this, but we still have a responsibility to the beneficiaries of Sentebale, so we will raise all our concerns with the Charity Commission regarding how this could happen," said Harry and Seeiso in a joint statement at the time.

Chandauka then accused Harry of coordinating a campaign of bullying and harassment to force him to step down. He told Sky News in March that Harry's resignation surprised him and was 'an example of large-scale harassment and bullying.'

He also claimed that Harry interfered in the whistleblower report he submitted against the charity. 'So this is an attempt to cover something up, and the prince is involved,' he said.

The Charity Commission for England and Wales conducted an investigation and criticized both parties for allowing this conflict to play out in public and damaging the organization's reputation, but found no evidence of widespread bullying or misogyny at Sentebale.

"The Sentebale issue occurred in public view, allowing disputes that damage the charity's reputation, risking overshadowing various achievements, and threatening its ability to serve the beneficiaries that are the primary purpose of this organization," said the commission's CEO, David Holdsworth, in a statement in August 2025.

Harry's spokesperson previously criticized the commission's report, while Chandauka welcomed the findings. A request for comment sent on Friday to the Duke of Sussex's office has not yet received a response.
