Raffi Ahmad's Story Almost Became the Goalkeeper of Persib Bandung Because of This Legendary Figure

"I only had two football players that I was a fan of when I was young, now there's Messi Ronaldo. When I was little, there were only two, me and Schmeichel and Buffon," said Raffi Ahmad at the TNI AU Field, Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Sunday (8/6/2023).

"I really wanted to become a goalkeeper because of watching Peter Schmeichel, and I wanted to become a junior goalkeeper for Persib because of Schmeichel," added Raffi Ahmad.

Even Raffi Ahmad still remembers how much he idolizes Peter Schmeichel, he once bought the same gloves as the 59-year-old goalkeeper.

"So when I was in elementary school, I wore red gloves like Schmeichel's, after Schmeichel Buffon. So only those two names really made me a goalkeeper back in the day," said Raffi Ahmad.

For Raffi, Peter Schmeichel is one of the best goalkeepers that Manchester United has ever had. Together with Manchester United, Peter Schmeichel once achieved treble winners in 1999.

"Schmeichel won the treble in 1999, and he is also one of Alex Ferguson's favorites. He was almost never substituted in any match, except when he was injured or sick," he said.

"His leadership is also irreplaceable, he was the captain for Denmark and he is a legend there, and also for goalkeepers in Manchester, I respect him a lot," concluded Raffi Ahmad.
