Ray Sahetapy Will Be Prayed at Istiqlal Mosque, Where He Became a Convert

Kapanlagi.com - The departure of senior actor Ray Sahetapy brings deep sorrow to his family and fans. His body will be prayed at Istiqlal Mosque on Friday (4/4/2025) before being buried at TPU Tanah Kusir.

"Oh yes, insyaallah I just got information from my mother that my father converted to Islam in 1982 before marrying my mother. And it just so happens he was converted at Istiqlal, so alhamdulillah he could convert at Istiqlal and embraced Islam at Istiqlal and also concluded at Istiqlal, alhamdulillah," said Raya Sahetapy when met at the funeral home Sentosa (Gatot Subroto) Block C, Thursday (3/4/2025).

According to Raya, there is a profound meaning in the prayer ceremony that will be held at Istiqlal Mosque. Besides being the place where his father embraced Islam, Istiqlal also symbolizes togetherness and spirituality for their family.

1. Prayed at Istiqlal Mosque

The body of Ray Sahetapy will be taken to Istiqlal Mosque around 10:00 AM WIB. After Friday prayers, a prayer for the deceased will be held around 1:30 PM WIB before the burial procession.

"We will leave around 10 AM to Istiqlal, after Friday prayers there will be a prayer for the deceased, probably finishing around 1:30 PM, after that the group will head to Tanah Kusir," explained Raya.

After the ceremony at Istiqlal Mosque, Ray Sahetapy's body will be buried at TPU Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta. However, this burial is temporary because the body will later be moved to Palu, according to the wishes of the deceased.

2. Waiting for Surya Sahetapy

This burial procession was temporarily delayed to wait for the deceased's child, Surya, who is currently in the United States. Surya immediately booked a flight ticket upon receiving the sad news.

"Yes, that's right, we are just waiting for Kak Surya, the burial process was indeed postponed because we were waiting for his child after consulting that it was okay. He was informed yesterday, Kak Surya immediately bought a ticket at 5 AM. And finally, we wait for the burial until Surya arrives," said Raya.

Dewi Yull, Ray Sahetapy's ex-wife, will also attend the burial procession right after arriving in Jakarta from out of town.

"Mother is still very likely to come directly to the burial, she is currently out of town, and once she arrives in Jakarta, she will go straight to the burial," she added.
