Regarding Permission and Royalties, David Bayu Claims No Problem with Other Artists Performing His Songs

Kapanlagi.com - Singer David Bayu apparently doesn't mind if his songs are performed by other musicians. Even though there is currently a controversy about licensing and royalties in the music world, the former vocalist of the band Naif chooses to stay relaxed.

He emphasizes that he doesn't mind if his songs are performed by other musicians because he believes that licensing and royalties are already regulated.

"It's not a problem, if I personally sing the songs," said David Bayu when met at M Block Space, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/7).

"The commercial aspect and everything else will be taken care of by someone else, there is already a field that handles the technical aspects," he continued.

1. There Must Be Ethics When Commercialized

According to David, when a work or song has been distributed to the public, it should indeed be ready to be sung or covered by other musicians.

"But personally, when the song has been made, anything that has been given to the public, yes, anyone can sing it," he said.

However, the 46-year-old man does not deny that what is actually more important is the ethics when singing someone else's work. Especially if the song to be sung will be commercialized.

"But when there is commercial value, the song must have its rights to the creator. There must have been a distribution of how the results are. That's ethics, respecting the work," he said.

2. There Has Been Permission

In addition, David admitted that he has indeed been contacted by other musicians when they wanted to sing his song. He also appreciates that and immediately gives permission for the musician to perform his composition. However, there are also those that he does not allow.

"There are definitely some, but there are also some that are not allowed for certain reasons," he concluded.
