Reported to the Police Regarding the Song 'Cinderella', Ian Kasela Faces 20 Years in Prison

Kapanlagi.com - Rival Achmad Labbaika, also known as Ipay, along with his legal team, officially reported the vocalist of the band Radja, Ian Kasela, to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Friday, September 1st, evening.

Ipay's report against Ian Kasela is registered with the number LP/B/5193/IX/2023/SPKT/Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Tiara Octavia, Ipay's legal representative, stated that the report was made due to copyright issues of the song Cinderella popularized by the band Radja.

"It is suspected that IK (Ian Kasela) has used the song Cinderella written under the name Ian Kasela - Ipay as the creator. However, the fact is that the song Cinderella was created by our client, Mr. Ipay, since 1996 and was published in 1998," said Tiara Octavia after filing the report.

1. Threat of 20 Years Imprisonment

Ian Kasela is reported under Article 112 in conjunction with Article 113 of the Copyright Law for allegedly misusing the copyright of the song Cinderella with a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment.

"Therefore, we reported it to the SPKT today because the initials IK are suspected of committing criminal acts under Article 112 in conjunction with Article 113 of the Copyright Law. This is a specific crime, the punishment is not trivial, cumulatively it reaches 20 years," said Tiara Octavia.

2. Regarding the Possibility of Peace

Ipay reported with two pieces of evidence, namely a contract agreement signed by Ian Kasela with the publisher of the song Cinderella and a demo of the song that Ipay had made. When asked about the possibility of taking a peaceful approach regarding the controversy over the copyright of the song Cinderella, Ipay stated that he wants the legal process to be pursued first.

"According to what is here, let us go through the legal process first," said Ipay.
