Sammy Simorangkir Becomes a Witness in the Copyright Law Judicial Review Session, Admits He Is Prohibited from Singing Kerispatih's Songs

Kapanlagi.com - Singer Sammy Simorangkir attended as a witness in the continued session of the Copyright Law judicial review at the Constitutional Court (MK), Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/7/2025).

"However, I experienced a form of legal uncertainty that made me uncomfortable and lost my sense of security as a singer," said Sammy.

Then Sammy recounted the complicated issues he faced after being expelled from Kerispatih. He admitted he was prohibited from performing the hit songs he once popularized with the band. This uniquely voiced singer then revealed the existence of restrictions and allegations of requests for a certain amount of money if he wanted to continue singing those songs.

"After I was unilaterally expelled from Kerispatih and started a solo career, I was banned from singing Kerispatih songs unless I paid Rp 5 million per song," Sammy revealed.

According to him, the prohibition did not come out of nowhere, but there were parties that initiated it. He also mentioned names that were suspected to be behind the regulation.

"This prohibition was issued by Kerispatih and is suspected to be on the orders of Badai, who is the creator of most of our songs," said Sammy.

This conflict turned out not to stop there and actually became even more complicated some time later. The situation changed when Badai, who is the main songwriter, also decided to leave Kerispatih.

Sammy explained that Badai actually sent a formal notice addressed to the band and also to him personally.

"The situation became increasingly complex when Badai left Kerispatih. He actually issued a warning to the band Kerispatih and also to me personally, prohibiting us from performing his songs," explained Sammy.
