Sandiaga Uno's Steep Path That is Not Widely Known by the Public, Once Laid Off - Months Without Clients

Ya, barang kali tak banyak yang tahu betapa Sandi sempat di-PHK. Kala itu, dunia sedang dilanda krisis. Ia yang bekerja di luar negeri itu pun harus pulang ke Indonesia.

“Saya juga pernah di PHK. Saat itu tahun 1997, disaat dunia memang sedang dilanda krisis yang sangat dalam. Saya bekerja di sebuah perusahaan di luar negeri, terpaksa harus kembali ke Indonesia dengan kondisi bekal di dompet yang semakin tipis. Saya termotivasi untuk tetap bangkit atas semangat yang diberikan istri saya,” kenang Sandi dalam webinar HUT BNI pada Minggu (4/7).

1. Unable to Get Clients

Interestingly, he started his business from scratch. Armed with skills in manipulating financial reports, he started as a financial consultant. Unfortunately, he didn't achieve success quickly, and for months he didn't get any clients.

"Only in the fourth month, I got my first customer. I was very grateful at that time. I started it with my close friends. And now, from being laid off, I can build a business that supports 30,000 people," he continued.

2. Must Struggle

From the pain of being laid off and then rising, Sandi gives advice to every +62 citizen who becomes a victim of layoffs or is struggling to start a business.

First, how to choose a suitable business. Second, how to get capital. Third, how to become a successful entrepreneur. Fourth, when to start a business. Fifth, how to face failure or confusion.

"I want to emphasize. There is no instant success. I experienced ups and downs for 20 years. It is impossible to always be on top. The key is, when we are on top, we must be grateful. When we look down, show empathy. Now, when we are down, we need to be patient, in order to stay motivated. To jump higher, we must understand that nothing is instant," he said.
