Sarah explained that the incident occurred in an era when regulations and protections for privacy were not as strict as they are now.

Sarah Azhari understands that the younger generation today may not know the details of the incident, but the digital footprint and past news record the events that harmed her and several other artist colleagues.

"That was a long time ago. Maybe you weren't born yet? Or were you still a child back then? It happened. There was an incident like that," said Sarah Azhari when met in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/12/2025).

The modus operandi used by irresponsible individuals at that time was very inhumane. Sarah recounted that cameras were installed in places that should have been areas of absolute privacy, such as toilets or changing rooms. This was done without the knowledge of the victims who were engaging in normal activities like changing clothes.

"In fact, we don't know. We don't know anything, we don't know anything at all. We are just engaging in human activities. So it's like being set up, like a camera being installed, in places where there shouldn't be a camera, in places of privacy, like in the toilet," he said.

Sarah emphasized that this action is a form of pure exploitation that is highly unlawful and unethical. The illegal recordings were then sold for the profit of certain parties, similar to the circulation of pirated VCDs that were rampant at that time.

"That is exploitation. And in my opinion, it is very violating, you know. Violating all sorts of things, you know. And it is very detrimental to an individual, especially someone who is known in society," she said.
