The trial of the case of possession of illegal drugs with the defendant Ammar Zoni was held again at the West Jakarta District Court. The agenda of the hearing today (16/7/2024) is to listen to the demands of the Public Prosecutor.
In their demands, the Prosecutor's Office demanded that Ammar be sentenced to twelve years in prison and fined Rp 2 billion. Meanwhile, another defendant named Akri was demanded to be sentenced to ten years in prison with the same fine.
Ammar Zoni was not present in the trial, so he followed the trial proceedings at Salemba Detention Center via zoom.
When Azam Akhmad Akhsya, the Public Prosecutor, read his demands, Ammar claimed that he did not hear it completely.
"I'm sorry, Your Honor, the sound wasn't very clear. I only heard a glimpse," said Ammar when asked for a response regarding the demands by the Chief Judge.
Slowly, the Chief Judge repeated the main demands so that Ammar Zoni could hear them. Upon hearing the demands, Ammar was momentarily silent, as if he couldn't believe what he heard.
"Twelve years, Sir?" Ammar asked. "Yes, yes, as explained by the Prosecutor," replied the Chief Judge.
When asked again to respond to the results of the demands by the Public Prosecutor by the Chief Judge, Ammar Zoni remained unresponsive.
Only then did he whisper, handing everything over to Jon Mathias as his legal advisor. "I leave it to my legal advisor," said Ammar.
The trial of Ammar Zoni's drug case will resume next Tuesday (23/7/2024). The agenda is to listen to the plea or defense from Ammar's side. Meanwhile, the trial with the defendant Akri will be held two weeks later (30/7/2024).
