Kapanlagi.com - Amidst the struggle of humanity against Covid-19, racism issues have emerged in America. One of the main causes is the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who was treated inhumanely by several police officers.

And apparently, this racism issue has also stirred Sophia Latjuba's heart to speak up. The mother of Eva Celia shared how she also grew up with darker skin than those around her when she was a child.

"Growing up in a small town in Germany in the 70s, I knew I was different. My skin was darker, my hair was darker, my father was the only Asian person with a different religion in our family and community. Even my uncle called me 'Rabi' (until now), which is a term that means black crow," Sophia wrote in the caption of her post.

1. Growing Up with Open-Minded People

Although born with different skin color from those around her, Sophia admits that she has never experienced any racist attitudes. One of the main reasons is because she grew up with open-minded and non-racist people.

"Yes, I grew up with the understanding that I am different. But never once did people around me give me the impression that this difference is something that makes me ashamed or worried. I was treated with love and respect to the point where I felt that having darker skin is special compared to others. But I am lucky because I am surrounded by very open-minded people," she continued.

2. It's Time for Humanity to Wake Up

According to Sophia, everyone has the same degree and right to life, regardless of their race or skin color. Of course, racism, which continues to happen worldwide, makes this 49-year-old woman feel so sad.

"Reflecting on these facts, I still can't digest the concept of racism, that one race is superior to others. The unfortunate events that have happened this year serve as a reminder that we need to start looking inward, that we have been negligent and asleep for too long; towards our fellow human beings and also nature," she continued.

"History has repeated itself, those who are oppressed and harassed will fight back to restore balance, and this is the time for us humans to wake up from our slumber and come together in spirit and love. This is the right time for enlightenment, even if it has to start from the bottom up," Sophia concluded.
