Sued for 9.5 Billion by Nagaswara, Gen Halilintar Family Speaks Out

Kapanlagi.com - Nagaswara filed a lawsuit against the Gen Halilintar family at the Central Jakarta District Court. The Gen Halilintar family is accused of copyright infringement for singing a cover of the song Lagi Syantik popularized by Siti Badriah without permission from the creator and Nagaswara, as the publisher.

Not stopping there, Nagaswara's demand against the Gen Halilintar family reaches a total of IDR 9.5 billion. So what is the response from the Gen Halilintar family?

"Certainly, that's not a small amount of money. Yes, they are very regretful. It means they (the Gen Halilintar family) say 'We are just a group of people who want to entertain many people with our creativity,'" said Sunan Kalijaga, SH, the lawyer representing the Gen Halilintar family when met at the Central Jakarta District Court, Wednesday (19/2).

1. Regretting Nagaswara's Step

According to Sunan Kalijaga, his client also deeply regrets that the matter has been brought to the legal realm. In fact, it could have been discussed within the family.

"The Halilintar family is definitely saddened by why it has come to this point with the lawsuit. Because according to the family, when they made the video, they were unfamiliar with the law," he said.

Furthermore, when Nagaswara initially reprimanded them, Sunan said that the Halilintar family immediately took down the disputed video.

2. Meeting with Nagaswara's Representatives

The Halilintar family also had a chance to meet with representatives from Nagaswara to have a civil discussion.

"After they received information, they promptly took down the video and made a good-faith effort to approach the individuals they deemed appropriate and convey that they had no intention of profiting or damaging someone else's song. There will come a time when we will bring our clients' children and speak honestly about the efforts they made after receiving the reprimand," said Sunan.

3. No Common Ground

Yos Mulyadi, as the legal representative of Nagaswara, confirmed that there had been discussions with the Gen Halilintar Family before filing a lawsuit in court. However, those discussions did not reach a common ground.

"But we didn't meet. It means that we didn't meet, there was no agreement, so that's why we filed this," he said.
