Tamara Tyasmara's Longing to Break Fast Together with the Late Dante

This year's Ramadan feels different for Tamara Tyasmara. Since the passing of her son, Adante Khalif Pramudityo, affectionately known as Dante, moments that were usually filled with joy now leave a deep longing.

Tamara shares her story about missing her son during the holy month. "What I miss the most is breaking the fast together. With the school moms, with Dante's school friends. Ramadan prayers at home with Dante, sahur, he always woke up," Tamara said with teary eyes when met at TPU Jeruk Purut, South Jakarta, Thursday (27/2/2025).

The moments of Ramadan for Tamara are not just about worship, but also about togetherness with Dante. Her cheerful son made the home atmosphere always lively, especially during sahur and breaking the fast.  "He eats by himself, he likes home-cooked food. Because he hasn't fasted yet. He planned to learn to fast last year," Tamara said with a smile reminiscing about Dante's intention to try fasting.

The loss of Dante has made this Ramadan, usually filled with enthusiasm, feel empty. Tamara admitted that she has no special preparations to welcome this holy month this year.  “Nothing really, just the usual. Ramadan last year and this year really feels different. Usually, we are very excited, but now it’s just whatever,” she said in a melancholic tone.

When asked how she copes with missing Dante, Tamara said that prayer is the only way.  “I can only pray, maybe go to the grave. Mostly just pray at home,” Tamara said.

She also shared that occasionally Dante appears in her dreams. However, those moments do not fully ease her longing.  “Sometimes,” Tamara replied briefly when asked if she still often dreams about Dante.

To cope with the feeling of loss, Tamara chose to stay active at work during Ramadan. She admitted that she intentionally took on jobs to keep her mind focused on positive things.  “I deliberately took a job to have a distraction. I also have my first day of shooting tomorrow,” she said.

According to Tamara, working also makes her feel more at ease compared to just staying at home.  “Maybe it helps me focus on my prayers. If I just stay at home, what will happen? So it’s better for me to work. Being outside makes me feel more at peace than at home,” she explained.  Although the sense of loss never truly fades, Tamara strives to accept her fate with sincerity. This Ramadan, which used to be vibrant, is now lived with simplicity and prayers for Dante. She believes that her son is now in a better place, and the memories with Dante will continue to be her motivation.
