When asked why she became a migrant worker, the answer given by Farida was very simple, which was wanting to become rich. Because she saw that women who worked abroad often succeeded.

"Since I was little, I wanted to be rich, meaning having a lot of money. Because my parents were considered to have many shortcomings, I didn't ask for much. That's why I was determined to go abroad to become a migrant worker and earn a high salary. Because back then, I knew that being a migrant worker had a high salary," said Farida when met in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, recently.

1. Leaving a Child at the Age of 11 Months

When she first became an overseas worker, Farida Nurhan had a child who was eleven months old. In order to fulfill her dreams, she was willing to leave her daughter named Dhyaz.

"An unforgettable memory was when twenty years ago, I willingly left my eleven-month-old child to go abroad to earn money. When I was about to leave with the agency, my child cried non-stop. The agency even asked, 'Do you want to stop (the car)?'. I replied, 'No, just keep going'," Farida recalled.

2. Working Taking Care of Dogs

During her time as an overseas worker, Farida Nurhan had various types of jobs. From taking care of dogs to mowing the lawn in a large garden.

"When I was abroad, I had a job taking care of dogs. Because my intention was to go abroad to support my child and family, I didn't mind doing such tasks. I even mowed the lawn until noon, and my face turned red because the garden was so big," Farida explained.

3. Send 50% of Salary to the Village Every Month

After the first six months of not being paid for passport deductions and other stuff, Farida Nurhan regularly sends money to her parents every month.

"In Singapore, for the first six months, I wasn't paid because of passport deductions, living expenses, and other things. After that, I send 50% of my salary to the village. My salary is around 3.7 to four million," said Farida.
