The Struggle of Affan Kurniawan, Aspiring to Educate His Younger Sibling

Erlina's tears fell as she recounted the struggles of her son, Affan Kurniawan, who has passed away forever. At the Karet Bivak cemetery in Central Jakarta, she remembered Affan as the family hero who tirelessly worked as an online motorcycle taxi driver. According to her account, her son's work ethic was indeed extraordinary.

Affan was known as a hard worker who never stopped seeking sustenance for his family. His mother still vividly remembers how her son returned to work after briefly coming home on the day of the incident.

"Affan never causes trouble. He works endlessly. Moreover, he doesn't talk much, he's in the Pacific. He came back yesterday, why does he have to come back again? Yes, he usually never has lunch, that's lunch," said Erlina.

Behind his persistence, Affan actually harbors a big dream that motivates him every day. As the backbone of the family, he is determined to finance his younger sibling's schooling from his hard work."He wants to send his younger sibling to school. He also does online motorcycle taxi (ojol). The older brother works, the older brother is number one. Service workshop, at the workshop. The little one is in the 2nd grade of junior high school," he revealed.

This struggle is not without reason, as Erlina herself also works hard every day as a housekeeper. She also recounts her busy routine that starts early in the morning."Mother comes home from 3:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Works at home," she explained.

However, fate had other plans; all those dreams and struggles had to come to an end. He passed away after being run over by a tactical vehicle (rantis) from the Brimob in the Pejompongan area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (28/8/2025). Erlina admitted that she felt something strange before the sad news reached her ears."Earlier, I already felt strange. But he was not there," she said.

The news of her child's passing was such a heavy blow that it even affected her physical condition. According to her, this was caused by shock and exhaustion after being engulfed in anxiety all day."No, the mother is bleeding because she hasn't rested. I don't know about the mother either," said the middle-aged woman.

Now, everything is just a memory of a child who was so devoted and had big dreams. Erlina could not hide her profound sense of loss.

"Yes, Mom knows he’s not here, but what for? He’s not here. Affan is not here," she concluded.
