Through the Busan International Film Festival 2023, Ario Bayu and Laura Basuki Want to Showcase the Extraordinary Talents of Indonesian Film Makers

This is certainly a good opportunity for Indonesian actors, actresses, and filmmakers as it indirectly serves as a bridge for local films to enter the international market.

That's what Ario Bayu had in mind when the film GADIS KRETEK, in which he stars, became a part of the festival. Through the Busan International Film Festival, he wants to show the world that Indonesia has talented individuals who can compete on the international stage.

"Personally, I want to show that Indonesia has film makers or talents who are competent enough to represent us on the international stage," said Ario Bayu when interviewed in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (2/10).

"So that's our hope, and we are proud to showcase the works of our fellow countrymen. Hopefully, they will receive it in the same way," he continued.

1. Opportunity to Penetrate the International Market

The same thing was also said by Laura Basuki on the same occasion. According to her, this will be a networking opportunity for Indonesian filmmakers to introduce their works to a wider audience.

Moreover, so far, foreign people can be said to be less familiar with or aware of Indonesian films. Therefore, the Busan International Film Festival 2023 is considered an opportunity and a way for the Indonesian film industry to penetrate the international market.

2. Foreigners Can Access Indonesian Films

"This festival event can be a networking opportunity, showing what Indonesian films are like because maybe access has been quite minimal," said Laura Basuki.

"It's minimal for foreigners to access Indonesian films, and this is one way for Indonesian filmmakers to show the results of Indonesian films so that in the future it might be easier as an opening to showcase other Indonesian films on the international stage," she concluded.
