Tya Ariestya Invites Her Child to Try Gultik, Emphasizes Simple Living

Tya Ariestya is consistent in introducing a simple life to her children even though they are in a comfortable situation. Recently, she took her son, Kanaka, to try the legendary street food Gultik in the Mahakam area.

"Because this is not always about living in luxury. We also have to be able to and later have friends who may not all be as privileged as Kanaka, alhamdulillah," said Tya Ariestya when met in the Warung Buncit area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/08/2026).

"I want him to be able to fit in with all classes. So from now on, he should be able to eat at a warteg smartly," she added.

1. Tya Ariestya Teaches Simplicity from an Early Age

Tya conveys that the value of simplicity is important to instill from a young age. She wants her children to become accustomed to various situations, including enjoying street food, not just comfortable choices.

While chatting in the Warung Buncit area, South Jakarta, Tya emphasizes that her main goal is to equip her children to relate to many people from different social backgrounds. The encouragement to mingle starts from simple things like dining choices.

"From an early age, I also have to teach them about economics because life’s journey is long, so if it's not nurtured from a young age, it won't work. Actually, if you look at it, children can find things easy, but they still need to learn to be as simple as possible with other kids," said Tya Ariestya.

For her, introducing economic realities from an early age is an important foundation for growth. She wants her children to understand and appreciate the various conditions they encounter in daily life.

2. Experience Eating Gultik in Mahakam

During a visit to Mahakam, Tya invited Kanaka to try Gultik, known as a legendary street food. This moment made Kanaka curious about the portion and price of the food served.

"Then just yesterday Kanaka tried eating Gultik. Okay, in Mahakam. Then he asked again, 'Mom, why is there so little rice?' Mom, how much is this rice? Okay, well this gultik rice gultik is only 7 thousand, Sis," she said.

"The price is 7 thousand. Oh 7 thousand? Yes, well later what is it called because he didn't rent a place maybe we don't know that the place doesn't pay for AC and so on so he can give a cheap price," continued Tya Ariestya.

Tya mentioned that Kanaka was surprised because the price felt much cheaper compared to snacks at school. The questions that arose from her child became part of the learning process to understand value and price.

3. Build Memories and Honor Economic Diversity

Tya emphasizes that everyday experiences grounded with family are a way to build strong memories. She prioritizes togetherness and simple activities over giving expensive gifts.

"Mom, can we come here to eat again sometime? I really like it here, Mom. The memory she remembers might be eating Gultik, right? That’s a memory that will be remembered until she grows up. She was once taken by Mom to eat at Gultik like that. So, we just want to create a lot of memories," said Tya Ariestya.

The experience of tasting Gultik on the side of Mahakam street has become one of the memorable moments for Kanaka. Tya hopes that collections of memories like this will strengthen her children to grow up without looking at social status and to be able to socialize with anyone.
