Ayu Ting Ting's Father Once Confronted a Neighbor Because They Were Called New Rich - Wore Excessive Jewelry

Ayu Ting Ting recounts the incident when her father, Abdul Rojak, approached a neighbor who was considered to have insulted her family. This story was revealed on the show Obrolan Tiap Waktu (OTW) on Trans7 on Sunday (20/7), after a family member overheard the neighbor talking about them.

The neighbor referred to Ayu Ting Ting's family as OKB (Orang Kaya Baru - New Rich) because they wore jewelry. "Basically, we were called snobbish, labeled as OKB (new rich) just because we wore a lot of jewelry. Then my father's nephew reported and asked, 'Hey, who was that person we met on the train yesterday? They were talking like this and that,' even though he didn't know the person," said Ayu Ting Ting.

Ayu said her family felt offended because they had never disturbed anyone else's life. "You know, my parents have never meddled in other people's lives; when we were struggling, we never cared about our neighbors, whether they were rich or not, we were never envious or resentful. But don’t ever disturb our lives, that’s basically it, as they say in Betawi," Ayu said.

Ayah Ojak then visited the neighbor's house who referred to his family as OKB. "He was approached by my father and mother. He was either going to admit it or not, but it was indeed true. 'So what? My child's money, my child works for it,'" said Ayu, mimicking her father's words when facing the neighbor.

Ayu explained that her family has a habit of investing in jewelry. "For me, my parents really enjoy investing in jewelry. How much money do you want to give to my mother until she bends down? According to Betawi people, we use our own money, it's halal money, so what's wrong with wanting to make our parents happy?" Ayu said.

Despite the conflict, Ayu stated that she continues to maintain a good relationship with the neighbors. "Now, living next to each other, there will always be something. Neighbors come in various types. I mean, if we are close, we can communicate everything, it's best to maintain a good relationship with neighbors, because if something happens, the first ones to help are the neighbors," she said.

Ayu also realizes her position as a public figure who often becomes the center of attention. “As artists, we have to know what the consequences are, we will be in the public spotlight. Basically, for things like that, we just pray for the best, so that their lives are happy, and we are also grateful that thanks to them we can survive until this moment,” said Ayu.
