Duo Anggrek consisting of Devay and Putri never expected that their single Cikini Gondangdia, which was released in 2015, would go viral and be sung by many people. After the song became famous, they admitted that they also received blessings.
Devay and Putri said that they now have many off-air jobs and have been able to accumulate wealth. With the money they have earned, they were able to send their parents to perform the umrah pilgrimage.
"We were able to send our parents for umrah, and we were able to buy the things we wanted," said Devay during a conversation at the KapanLagi office in Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (22/5/2024).Â
Similar to Devay, Putri also sent her mother to perform the umrah pilgrimage. Furthermore, the money also helped ease her burden in financing her siblings' education.
"The viral result of Cikini Gondangdia yesterday, Alhamdulillah, I was able to take my mother for Umrah, and I schooled all my siblings," said Putri.
Indeed, Devay said that her duet partner can be considered the backbone of her family. Moreover, Putri has lost her father since a young age, and she has been helping with the family's economy.
"She doesn't have a father, she is the backbone of her family, so while working, I sacrificed a lot to educate her siblings until college. Yesterday, her parents went for Umrah, and I am grateful to have a duet partner who can educate her siblings," explained Devay.
"During the time when my father passed away, my mother and younger sibling were entrusted to me. My father passed away while my mother was pregnant with my younger sibling. At that time, I was thinking about whether I could support my mother and siblings, but I was sure that sustenance would not go away. No matter how much I earned from my job, I gave it all. I even used the money I received from tips to buy milk. Now, my sibling has grown up and is studying in college," said Putri.
Both Devay and Putri never expected that after a 3-year hiatus due to Covid-19, their single "Cikini Gondangdia" suddenly went viral. They both considered it a turning point and the highest achievement in their music career.
"Our dream was to have a song that many people would sing. Alhamdulillah, during our live performance, we cried while singing together, feeling successful for having a song that has reached this point. Initially, we were just street singers, getting paid very little. We never expected to be paid this much," Devay concluded.
However, Yasmine mentioned that she still maintains a good relationship with Aditya Zoni, especially for the sake of their children.
