Feeling Annoyed, National Commission for Child Protection Asserts Boycott of Saipul Jamil from All Television Shows

Kapanlagi.com - The National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) is furious to see the release of Saipul Jamil being celebrated and immediately appearing on television. Komnas PA believes that the grand reception of Saipul Jamil being released from prison does not show any respect for the feelings of the victims who were once harassed by former husband Dewi Perssik.

The Chairman of Komnas National Commission for Child Protection, Arist Merdeka Sirait, stated that the reception of Saipul Jamil's release from prison was excessive. He even considered it as if Saipul Jamil had just won a competition.

"There was an incident that made us uncomfortable a few days ago, where a self-proclaimed celebrity who was convicted of sexual harassment. Yesterday, the reception was like a hero who had just finished a match, paraded with a sash and celebrated like a joyful release," said Arist Merdeka Sirait during a press conference at his office in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, on Monday (6/9/2021).

"Then he was paraded in a luxurious open car and welcomed at the beach by our celebrities. This made the victim report to the child protection commission feeling hurt by it. Because the incident demeaned the dignity of the victim and made the child protection commission reject the thousands of children who have experienced sexual crimes, feeling offended," continued Arist Merdeka.

1. Boycott from All Television Shows

Not stopping there, Arist Merdeka also regrets the television's decision to immediately accept Saipul Jamil to reappear in the entertainment industry. He requests that television does not feature Saipul Jamil on the screen. Moreover, he also asks television to boycott the 41-year-old singer.

"I want to firmly convey the boycott of Saipul Jamil from all television shows. It is not educational and even damages the child protection movement, boycott. I ask television stations or production houses not to give him the opportunity to do that," he said.

Arist Merdeka said that after being released from prison, Saipul Jamil should hide and not appear on television.

"If in the context of sexual crimes anywhere in the world, they should hide and not show themselves, then in Indonesia, for monitoring purposes like Saipul Jamil, they should be fitted with chips. So that we know where he goes, whether he will commit sexual crimes again," concluded Arist Merdeka.

2. Very Regrettable

Similar sentiments were also expressed by Ernest Prakasa, Ahmad Kemal Palevi, and the Legal Coordinator of End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography & Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT), Rio Hendra. ECPAT believes that the celebration of Saipul Jamil's freedom is excessive. According to them, this should not have happened, as reported by Liputan6.

"It shouldn't have been done, especially when we consider the case and its final verdict in court. I think such a celebration should not have taken place because we are Indonesians and we hold onto our traditional values, especially in cases like this which cannot be seen as good," he said when contacted by Liputan6.com on Sunday (5/9).

Furthermore, Rio also regrets that the entertainment media shows no sympathy for the victims of sexual abuse who may have witnessed Saipul Jamil's appearance on TV. For him, the celebration of Saipul Jamil's freedom is completely inappropriate and considered normal.

"So, don't judge based on the person, because he is a celebrity who can be covered extensively like a hero being adorned with flowers like that," criticized Rio.
