Initially Reluctant, Turns Out the Older Sister Became a Motivator for Meli Nuryani to Return to Compete

Kapanlagi.com - Before participating in the talent search event Liga Dangdut Indonesia 2020 and emerging as the champion, Meli Nuryani or Meli LIDA apparently had participated in other dangdut talent search events. Not playing around with her singing ability, at that time Meli managed to reach the top seven and eventually she had to be eliminated in that round.

This 16-year-old girl never even thought or expected to become the champion in this third season of LIDA. Meli herself can be said to be very skilled in singing dangdut songs because she has been singing from stage to stage since she was in 5th grade of elementary school.

"Meli comes from a humble family, she has been singing from stage to stage since she was in 5th grade of elementary school. Now she is known thanks to LIDA, I never expected it because I used to hope to become a famous singer and never thought it would come true, but apparently Allah had different plans," said Meli Nuryani when met in the Kalibata area, South Jakarta, (27/10) Tuesday afternoon.

1. Learn Music Self-taught

This young dangdut singer from Cianjur, West Java learns music self-taught. But after he left his first competition, his father suggested him to enter a religious boarding school and abandon his dream as a dangdut singer.

"Alone, self-taught, often listen from YouTube, from TV when it was Lesti's era, I often watched her because I liked her. My father once said 'instead of becoming a dangdut singer and not achieving anything, it's better to enter a religious boarding school'," he said.

2. Spirit Reemerges

Although he briefly forgot his dream because of his father's advice, Meli's spirit reemerged when his older sister suddenly asked him to audition for LIDA. Of course, his sister's intuition turned out to be true, besides successfully advancing to the next stage, Meli also emerged as the champion.

"Before LIDA, I once participated in another competition, on a different TV station. But I only made it to the top 7 and got eliminated there. I wanted to try again, but I didn't expect to become a champion and I didn't have any intention. Then when Meli came home from school, my sister suddenly asked her to audition, even though there was no intention to pass or become a champion," she explained.

"My sister was so confident that Meli would make it, she said she would definitely pass, so Meli just participated with her sister's constant support, from the beginning, from stage to stage together with her sister," she added.
