Kapanlagi.com - Melly Lee was present to provide support and evaluation as a guest judge in the auditions of Dangdut Academy 8 (DA 8) in Jakarta. As a singer who also came from a talent search event, Melly fully understands the pressure felt by participants when standing in front of the judging team.

"From my personal experience, the preparation for the first audition is definitely health, and also preparing mentally because sometimes when you're in front of the judges, even if they're not celebrity judges, we can still get nervous," said Melly Lee when met at the Indosiar Studio, Emtek City, West Jakarta, on Sunday (10/5/2026).

"So it’s like you don’t know, suddenly you’ve prepared this song, but when you’re in front of them, you’re confused about which song to sing," added the LIDA 2020 champion.

Melly explained that mental preparation is far more important than just vocal techniques. According to her, a good voice will not come out maximally if the participant's mental state is not strong or suddenly feels pressured during the audition.

"It’s all about mental preparation and also preparing songs, even if you suddenly forget the song, just prepare it first. Because if the mental state isn’t strong, anything can happen. So the voice might be good, but if the mental suddenly goes down, it can end up not being good," she said.

1. Controlling Yourself From Anxiety

For Melly, feeling nervous is a normal thing for every singer, even for herself who is already a professional. However, the key is how to control oneself so that the anxiety does not ruin the overall performance.

"Basically, it all depends on ourselves; in the end, it's all about how we control ourselves. If we still feel nervous
it means we still feel that we always want to be better and
give our best. So the point is, it's okay to be nervous as long as we can manage it," she explained.

2. Make Participants Enjoy

To lighten the atmosphere, Melly even took the time to interact directly with the participants at the audition location. She invited them to chat and create content together to ease the participants' tension a bit before entering the audition room.

"Actually, earlier we were making content with the kids, inviting them to sing, chatting, and cheering them on so they would feel more enjoyable, to feel closer to us, and to feel inspired by us as well. The point is, we want to give them the best motivation so that they can be even more enthusiastic," concluded
Melly.
