Criticism of JK Rowling's Transphobic Tweets, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson Defend Transgender People

Shortly after, JK Rowling tweeted again about her protests against transgender people and their identities. It's not surprising that Rowling's actions have garnered criticism and accusations of being transphobic (refusing to support or fight for transgender or transsexual individuals).

1. Daniel Radcliffe Doesn't Accept

Apparently, it successfully caught the attention of Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who played Harry Potter and spent his childhood in the magical world created by JK Rowling. Disagreeing with the 54-year-old woman, Daniel instead defends the rights of transgender people.

Through an essay released through The Trevor Project, this British actor wrote, "This is not about a fight between me and Jo (JK Rowling), there are more important things now. Transgender women are women. Any statement that tries to erase the identity and dignity of transgender people will contradict all the advice given by health associations that are far more knowledgeable about this topic than Jo or me."

"It seems clear, we need to support transgender and non-binary people more, not to erase their identities or cause further damage. I deeply apologize if those comments have hurt you. I really hope you won't lose any valuable values in this story," he added.

2. Emma Watson's Response

Not only Daniel, Emma Watson also expressed her support for the transgender community. Strongly opposing Rowling's opinions, the beautiful 30-year-old actress revealed her support through her latest tweet on Twitter today, Thursday (11/6).

"The transgender community is who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned and told they are not who they claim to be. I want my transgender followers to know that I see you, I respect you, and I love you for who you are," Emma wrote.

3. Eddie Redmayne Also Speaks Out

Just like Daniel and Emma, Eddie Redmayne, who has also worked with JK Rowling, also regrets this. The actor who portrayed a transgender character in the film THE DANISH GIRL spoke out to Variety.

"As someone who has worked with JK Rowling and as a member of the trans community, I want to explain my position. I disagree with Jo's comments. Transgender women are women, transgender men are men, and non-binary identities are valid," he said firmly.
