Having won several awards in his latest film, OPPENHEIMER, Cillian Murphy will once again be the lead actor in a film directed by the duo directors, Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. This time, the film he will star in is titled BLOOD RUNS COAL.
This story is an adaptation of the book with the same title, Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America by Mark A. Bradley. Jez Butterworth has contributed to the making of the James Bond sequel titled SPECTRE and has also directed FORD V FERRARI. Meanwhile, John-Henry Butterworth has worked on the legendary film INDIANA JONES, as well as two others, GET ON UP and THE DIAL OF DESTINY). The Butterworth duo has previously worked on the same project titled EDGE OF TOMORROW. They will be followed by the latest film, BLOOD RUNS COAL.

BLOOD RUNS COAL is a story about a corrupt labor union leader who kills his competitor. However, he is brought down by the son of a lawyer from the coal miners who was killed. This story takes place in the late 1960s in Pennsylvania, United States. It is recorded as one of the most famous crimes in the history of American labor unions.
This case involves Jock Yablonski, a coal miner and labor union activist named United Mine Workers. He is known as a dedicated worker and activist in defending labor rights, ranging from safety, good working conditions, to health benefits. In addition, he is also a second-generation coal miner after his father died in a mining explosion.
During the union leader election, Yablonski ran against the incumbent union leader who was going for a second term named Tony Boyle. There were complex issues between the two when Yablonski challenged Boyle. Boyle, while serving as the chairman of the labor union, was also involved in corruption within the union. This is what made Yablonski determined to oppose Tony Boyle from running for chairman of the labor union again.
This issue became more complicated between the two of them, leading to a murder case. This murder became the beginning of the labor union revolution in the United States.
This murder resulted in the Yablonski family being killed on New Year's Eve, except for Chip Yablonski. Due to the unfortunate incident that happened to his father, Chip did not remain silent. He filed a petition with the Department of Labor to seek justice for his father.

Cillian Murphy is reportedly going to portray the character of Chip Yablonski. This is a project that will be taken on by Cillian Murphy after his coronation in the 2024 Oscar as Best Actor for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Chairman and head of NBCUniversal, Donna Langley, immediately adopted Cillian Murphy with her official offer to star in this film.
Cillian Murphy will also resume filming in September 2024 to reprise his character Thomas Shelby, a role that has become inseparable from him. However, there is no official information about this project yet. Universal Studio has also not officially announced the actors who will join this film project.
