Indonesian films have many stories in their development. Usually, Indonesian films that are popular in the market are adaptations. These types of films are usually made from novels, Twitter threads, or even remakes of existing films. Examples of adaptation films include DILAN 1990, PENGABDI SETAN, and KKN DI DESA PENARI. 

However, in recent years, Indonesian filmmakers have started to develop films with original screenplays. It turns out that films with original screenplays are highly popular among Indonesian audiences. The genres usually include comedy, horror, and drama. Examples of films with original screenplays include DUA GARIS BIRU, NGERI-NGERI SEDAP, and the film that has just reached 7 million viewers, AGAK LAEN.
