Because of Desta, Dimas Djay Even Wants to Direct Music Videos Again

Surprising news comes from the music video industry in the country with the return of legendary director Dimas Djay. After almost ten years away from the director's chair, Dimas has finally relented to work on the music video for the song 'NDOKASIN' by Desta.

It turns out that there was a hard struggle behind Dimas Djay's return to the visual world. Desta revealed that he faced rejection initially when trying to contact Dimas to get involved in this film project 'WARKOP DKI'.

"I just want to let you know that Dimas Jay no longer wants to be a director. But the Falcon party asked me to talk to Dimas Jay. So I tried, initially there was rejection," said Desta when met at XXI Epicentrum Kuningan, South Jakarta, Saturday (23/05/2026).

Desta, who feels a strong connection to Dimas Djay's works, remains persistent in persuading the director. He believes that only Dimas's steady hands can translate the nostalgic concept of Warkop DKI into a three-minute music video.

"But you know, I'm not one to give up easily. In the end, I tried again, because it's for a three-minute music video. Finally, he agreed," said Desta.

Dimas Djay himself admitted that the reason he accepted this offer was due to his high respect for the Trio Warkop. He has sweet memories of being greeted directly by the late Kasino when he had just received an international award in the past.

"In the past, because I had just received an award from abroad, I met Uncle Dono, Kasino, and Indro, and they greeted me first. I was told I was cool because I received the award, and I was called directly by Mas Kasino," reminisced Dimas Djay.

To create a strong nostalgic impression, Dimas chose a unique shooting concept. He used an old camera and filmed in locations that had once witnessed the history of the Warkop DKI film shooting in the past, such as in the Cibubur area.

"Some scenes are from the shooting scenes like that. We just didn’t think that we would shoot using an old camera. It is, after all, an old camera, and we used locations where Warkop also shot back then, in Cibubur," explained Tora Sudiro. "Yes, I made this video as old-fashioned as possible because the visuals of the Warkop film on television have that old vibe, so this music video turned out like that," concluded Dimas Djay.
