Kapanlagi.com - Becoming an independent band after decades under a major label provides a new experience for D'Masiv. Rian Ekky Pradipta admits that there are many processes they now have to handle independently, from production to financial matters.

D'Masiv now directly feels the challenges of managing their own record company. All production needs for their latest work, including music videos, are now fully funded using the personal pockets of the band members.

"Maybe what's different is that we now handle everything ourselves. So we become aware of all the expenses, it turns out it's not easy to be independent because, well, it’s not easy but we enjoy the process," said Rian D'MASIV when met in the Thamrin area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (20/5/2026).

1. Reasons Willing to Invest Capital

Even though they have to invest a significant amount of capital, there is a certain satisfaction felt by this band from Ciledug. One of their strongest reasons for choosing the independent route is the desire to have full rights over their own master recordings.

"Well, this time we own the masters, we are the ones who spent our own money, we made the music video with our own funds. So it's like, yeah, it turns out it's not easy to have your own record label, but it's fun, I mean we really enjoy it," explained Rian.

2. Long-Term Valuable Assets

For D'Masiv, ownership of the master recordings is a valuable asset that is very important for the sustainability of their long-term career. They now feel happier because every work recorded independently will fully belong to them.

"The most important thing is actually that the masters belong to us, so the assets of the songs we record are our own. That's also one of the reasons why we are happy to be independent. Because our old songs have their masters owned by the label, by the old label," he explained further.

3. Freedom to Explore

Aside from business matters, the indie path has allowed D'Masiv to be freer in their creative exploration. This is evident from their latest music video concept, which is considered to be significantly different and more absurd compared to their previous works.

"The difference might actually be that after becoming independent, we can explore more, even perhaps in terms of stage action later, maybe in visuals, in lighting, there will be a lot of changes from what is usually done, more conceptualized," Rian stated.
