Becoming a Widow, Wika Salim Must Struggle to Support Her Child in the Film Mendadak Dangdut

The film MENDADAK DANGDUT will soon be showing in theaters starting April 30, 2025. One of the cast members involved is Wika Salim, a dangdut singer who is now testing her acting skills on the big screen.

The 33-year-old woman plays the role of Tata, a widow who has to struggle to support her child alone. The character of Tata is said to have to marry Babe Romli in order to remain relevant as a singer.

Wika's decision to join this project was not made immediately. She initially felt less confident because she saw the list of other cast members who already had extensive experience in the film industry."At first, I was hesitant because I wasn't confident since the cast was so impressive," said Wika Salim at XXI Plaza Senayan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/9/2025).

Wika recounted that the approach was made directly by the director and producer. She met with Monty Tiwa and Indra Gunawan, who then explained the story concept to her."Mr. Indra assured me, I went to the office to meet Mr. Indra, Mr. Monti talked, and it turned out that after I learned the story, it was really good," Wika said.

Although still not very experienced in the film world, Wika feels lucky because she has been guided a lot by the production team and other actors. The shooting process went smoothly and she feels she has grown as an actress."So my role here is not as a film actor, so to get into Tata's character, Mr. Indra convinced me to learn, thank God I could portray Tata," explained Wika.

The presence of veteran actors and actresses also motivated Wika during the production process. This film also stars Anya Geraldine, Nurra Datau, Opie Kumis, and Calvin Jeremy."The story is really good, I read the story of this film and it's really good, and the cast, thank God, helped a lot," said Wika.

Furthermore, Wika feels that she has gained many lessons and new friends while working on this film project. She considers the atmosphere on set to be very familiar and enjoyable."I’m really happy to be part of the production of Mendadak Dangdut, to have new friends, to have new family," she expressed.

According to Wika, what makes this film special is the chemistry among the cast that feels natural. She feels all the actors are not trying to overact and instead show a sincere side."Because what I see here is that the actors are like they’re not acting, everything feels so natural and very sincere," said Wika.

Wika expressed her hope that this film can be well received by the public. She believes that the hard work of the entire team will yield sweet results."So hopefully what we present can be well received by everyone," she concluded.
