Anya Geraldine Admits She Has Been Familiar with Dangdut Music Since Childhood, Listen to Songs by Ikke Nurjanah to Mansyur S

Anya Geraldine is entrusted to play the character Naya, a dangdut singer from the capital who is forced to return to her hometown in the film MENDADAK DANGDUT. In this film, Anya not only acts but also sings and dances like a real dangdut singer.

Although it seems like a new challenge, Anya is actually not unfamiliar with dangdut music. She admits to being used to listening to dangdut songs since she was a child at home.

"Coincidentally, my ears are already familiar with dangdut. When I was a child, there were many who played dangdut at home. I often listened to songs by Ikke Nurjanah. And who else, Beh, the singers from back in the day," said Anya at XXI Plaza Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (4/9/2025).

He also mentioned several old singers whose works he has often heard since childhood. Music from big names like Meggy Z to Mansyur S is no stranger to his ears.

"Meggy Z, Mansyur S, those from classic dangdut to the more koplo style, I've heard a lot. I even have a dangdut playlist on my phone before I starred in the film Mendadak Dangdut. So I actually like it," he revealed.

Not only singing, as Naya, Anya is also required to perform like a singer on stage, complete with the dance style of dangdut singers. Even so, she admitted that she did not take references from any particular singer.

"There’s no specific dangdut singer I reference, but there was someone who taught dance in a workshop the other day," she said.

Anya actually chooses to follow her heart when dancing, especially when she hears the rhythm of dangdut music. She feels that dancing should not be forced or designed in a certain way.

"In my opinion, in dangdut or anywhere, it's like the name says, people dance from within here (the heart) when we hear a song, so it's not something that should be overthought, just let it flow," she said.

Moreover, according to Anya, dangdut music has its own power that can instantly move the body. She admits that the rhythm of the drums in dangdut is quite effective in making her sway naturally. "Especially with dangdut, as soon as you hear the drums, you just go for it," she said.

Her experience in this film has become one of the memorable moments in her career journey. From just an admirer, Anya can now sing and embody dangdut songs live in front of the camera.

The film Mendadak Dangdut will premiere on April 30, 2025, and the character Naya played by Anya is believed to be one of the main attractions of this film. In addition to Anya, this film also stars several big names such as Nurra Datau, Opie Kumis, Wika Salim, and Calvin Jeremy.
