Becoming the Ghost of Penebok, Shaloom Razade Suggests Using Dutch in 'The Bell'

Kapanlagi.com - Young actress Shaloom Razade faces a big challenge in her acting career through the latest horror film, The Bell: A Call to Death. The daughter of Wulan Guritno plays the character Isabella, a terrifying entity known as the ghost of Penebok in Belitung.

Interestingly, Shaloom adds a personal touch to deepen the character of Isabella, who is portrayed as an activist during the colonial era. She specifically requested the director to have her character speak Dutch in several scenes to give a more serious and authentic impression.

"So actually there is no Dutch in the script, that was my own idea.
Sometimes I see how Isabella conveys messages to the Dutch, and to show that Isabella is serious. That’s why I suggested to just use Dutch," said Shaloom Razade when met at Epicentrum, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Monday (27/4/2026).

1. Starring Septian Dwi Cahyo as Well

The character Isabella or the Penebok ghost is depicted as a headless figure wearing a red dress. Shaloom reveals that there is a deep meaning behind why this ghostly figure collects human heads, which will later be revealed in the storyline.

In addition to Shaloom, this film is also starred by Septian Dwi Cahyo who plays Doctor Usman. As an actor who has been around for a long time, Septian admits he is proud that Indonesia finally has a new horror mascot that is very terrifying through the figure of Penebok.

"It turns out that in Indonesia there is a Penebok, this is really cool for me especially since I become a doctor here and have to protect young people from the Penebok," said Septian Dwi Cahyo sharing his experience.

2. There is Bhisma Mulia as Well

Bhisma Mulia, who plays the character Danto, also feels very emotional during the production process of this film. He recounts how he was very careful in delving into his character so as not to ruin the important plot twist in the script of The Bell.

Personally, Bhisma feels a closeness to the character Danto, who is caught between ambition and family expectations. He considers this project as a new spirit in his career because of the very in-depth character discussions with director Jay Sukmo.

The background of this film story indeed raises the local myth of Belitung that
is rarely explored. The production team hopes that Penebok can become a new horror icon with strong cultural roots while still being relevant to today’s generation of viewers who are hungry for visual fear.

The presence of the Penebok character is expected not only to provide instant terror but also to build a horror atmosphere that stems from the beliefs of the local community. This local identity is what Multi Buana Kreasindo will bring to the international film market in Cannes later.
