'DANUR: THE LAST CHAPTER' Ready to Terrorize Cinemas Through IMAX Format

The long wait for Indonesian horror fans is finally answered with the arrival of the film DANUR: THE LAST CHAPTER which promises high-quality visuals. Renowned producer Manoj Punjabi assures that this concluding series receives very special treatment, one of which is presenting a giant screen format that delights the eyes of the audience.

"Yes, after 10 years we started Danur, began preparations, started filming in 2016, and in 2026 this is Danur: The Last Chapter, the end of the Danur series. And this is the third film from MD in IMAX," he said after the gala premiere at XXI Agora, Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Sunday (08/03/2026).

This husband of Shania Punjabi also revealed the reasons why it took years to release this fourth sequel to the public. The background of this long gap is not merely a result of past pandemic constraints, but rather the process of searching for a script and narrative perspective that is truly perfect.

"It's been a long time, not just because of COVID, so it hasn't happened yet. From 2019 to 2026, that's 7 years later from Danur 3 to 4. So we can see how seriously we are handling Danur: The Last Chapter," he said.

The original writer and the real figure behind this story, Risa Saraswati, also feels the same way about the long journey of the franchise. She admitted that this final chapter aligns very well with her vision to stop interacting with the world of her ghost friends on the big screen.

"Yes, I have been waiting. This has been anticipated for a long time, and I feel this is the climax point of Danur," she revealed.

The massive production scale is also acknowledged by the director, Awi Suryadi, who has to think creatively to find fresh innovations so that fans do not feel bored. The filming process has also drastically increased compared to the production of the first film that was released in 2017.

"Danur 1 was shot in 11 days, Danur 2 in 12 days. Our additional shoot was also 12 days. So it feels like we have already shot two films for Danur," he concluded.

Bringing the audience into absolute tension, Danur: The Last Chapter tells the story of Risa (Prilly Latuconsina) who must reopen her inner eye after her sister, Riri (Zee Asadel), experiences a deadly terror after being proposed to in an old building. Suspecting that Peter, William, Janshen, Hendrick, and Hans want to send a dangerous message, Risa is forced to confront a terrifying entity named Asih.
