Dian Sastrowardoyo Makes a Comeback as the Main Character in 'MOTHERNET', A Heartfelt Family Drama Film

Kapanlagi.com - Following the success of GADIS KRETEK, PEREMPUAN TANAH JAHANAM, and MALAM PENCABUT NYAWA, BASE Entertainment is making waves in the film industry with its latest project; MOTHERNET. This film is expected to bring various surprises and a plethora of heartfelt stories.

In this latest project, BASE Entertainment collaborates with Beacon Films, founded by Dian Sastrowardoyo, and Refinery Media, a production house from Singapore. Additionally, in this project, BASE Entertainment also partners with Winnie Lau, a producer based in Vietnam, who previously produced the Netflix series, The Thai Cave Rescue. Dian Sastrowardoyo is also one of the producers of this project.

1. Directed by a Talented Filmmaker from Malaysia

The film MOTHERNET is directed by Wi Ding Ho, a Malaysian director based in Taiwan. Wi Ding previously won the 'Best New Director' award at the 2010 Golden Horse Awards for his debut work, Pinoy Sunday.

Wi Ding also directed Cities of Last Things, which received numerous awards and premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. The film won the Platform Prize, an award for films with high artistic value and a strong directorial vision.

Mothernet will be the first co-production between BASE and Refinery Media, which is a leading producer of popular reality and lifestyle shows such as Asia's Next Top Model. This film will utilize cutting-edge technology at Refinery's newly launched X3D Studio, the largest Virtual Production studio in Southeast Asia. Virtual scenes in this film will be shot in Singapore, while most of the other scenes will be filmed on location in Indonesia.

2. Brief Synopsis of Mothernet

Mothernet is a family drama set against a backdrop of technology and climate change issues. The film tells the story of Rama, a 16-year-old teenager, who must face the reality after a tragic accident leaves his mother in a coma. With the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Rama and his father strive to confront their new reality.

Dian Sastrowardoyo, previously known for her strong roles including in the series Gadis Kretek, plays the role of the mother this time. Ringgo Agus Rahman, who has captivated audiences in films like Keluarga Cemara and Falling in Love Like in the Movies, will portray the father. Meanwhile, Ali Fikry, known for his role in 24 Hours with Gaspar, will bring to life the character of the son named Rama.

3. The Moment of Dian Sastro's Return as the Main Actress

This film will mark the return of Dian Sastrowardoyo as the leading female actress after her role in Guru-Guru Gokil in 2020. Dian Sastrowardoyo not only plays the main female character in Mothernet, but also takes on the role of producer behind the scenes. The actress, who has just been nominated for Best Actress at the 2024 Seoul Drama Awards, shares the deep meaning this project holds for her.

"Mothernet is a very special film because it marks the debut of Beacon Film, and as an actress, I am once again faced with a new challenge to portray a mother from a different perspective and with a more detailed and in-depth character approach," said Dian.
