1. The Event's Flow

As the opening performance, the audience was treated to a performance by the Bandung Jazz Orchestra on the Endless Stage in the afternoon before the main stage at the Gaia Hotel Bandung Amphitheater opened. From their seats, they could see the green scenery that served as the backdrop while listening to the melodious compositions and harmonizations of music from the Bandung Jazz Orchestra.

The Endless Stage is special because it is suspended more than 30 meters above the ground. It became an attraction and a memorable experience for both the performers and the audience who came to the Gaia Music Festival: Jazz In The Valley 2024.

On the first day (3/8), a lineup of awaited performers included Natasya Elvira & Kevin Yosua Big 6 presenting their best jazz compositions, Dua Empat in a complete format with flute and clarinet, Ivan Nestorman performing magically, and closing with Kahitna in a joyful and nostalgic celebration.

On the second day (4/8), the performance on the main stage opened with Aditya Ong Quartet with a jazz set list. Then there was Mocca, bringing the atmosphere of 90s Bandung to life with their songs.

After that, Dewa Budjana along with skilled accompanying musicians like Marthin Siahaan (keyboard), Yandi Andaputra (drums), Sadhu Rasjidi (bass), and a vocalist from Bandung named Agis Kania collaborated to perform As You Leave My Nest (from the album Joged Kahyangan).

"This is the most jazz event and the hotel is very nice!" said Dewa Budjana as he closed his performance with the high-octane song Queen Kanya.

As a finale to close the Gaia Music Festival: Jazz In The Valley 2024, Elfa's Singers along with Yongky Vincent, who was appointed as the music director and accompanying band, made the event very entertaining and provided a spark of nostalgia that was truly memorable.

Prahara Cinta was also performed. Lita, Ucie, Agus, and Yana sang and danced with each other. After that, they performed the original song Kata Hatiku from the album Sing The Best (2008).

Lita and Ucie performed their song among the audience, with no distance between them. Stay With Me from the album Timeless (2016) was also showcased. With a medley of September, Fantasy, and After The Love Has Gone by Earth, Wind & Fire, this vocal group became even more energetic. The song Pesta was used as the closing act of their performance. The audience gathered to dance in front of the stage.

Each performer gave unexpected performances and fan service, making the audience feel as if there was no distance between them and their idol musicians. For instance, when Kahitna performed, they invited the audience to come up on stage. Even Mario and Hedi Yunus did not hesitate to sit among the audience while singing. This certainly became an opportunity for fans to take selfies with their idols.

“This year we involved the audience in a bigger role. We consider the audience present to be part of the performance of GAIA Music Festival: Jazz in The Valley. They brought the atmosphere of this event to life. Therefore, we titled it Total Enjoyment," said Rezka M Wildhan, chairman of Gaia Music Festival 2024.

Mocca and Elfa’s Singer also did the same. For example, when Arina, Yana, Lita, Ucie, and Agus invited several audience members to dance together on stage. The scene between the audience and the performers was without distance, interacting with each other, and warm.

One of them was during Mocca's performance, which closed with the song Swing It Bob. Arina (vocals) invited three audience members, one of whom was still a child, to dance on stage. Afterwards, Toma (bass) made a joke, "It's time for a family photo with Arina."

In line with its title, 'Total Enjoyment' was felt so vividly. The expressions from the audience were genuine. From toddlers, children, teenagers, adults, to the elderly, everyone thoroughly enjoyed this music event as if they were fully involved in the performance. Events like this can become core memories that can be cherished for years to come.

I hope the success of this event can continue consistently as a platform for the jazz music community in the archipelago in the future.
