Kapanlagi.com - Donny Alamsyah has starred in dozens of films since his debut in 2005 with the biopic GIE. However, in his filmography, he rarely participates in horror productions.
Frankly, Donny admits that he is hesitant whenever offered to be involved in a horror film, partly due to the story. However, when reading the script for SENGKOLO: MALAM SATU SURO, that doubt disappeared.
"I have doubts about the horror genre. But when I read the script for this film, it was what moved me to say, 'Okay, the story is good'. From the script, the atmosphere is interesting, tension is slowly built, not just jump scares," Donny said when met in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Friday (14/6).

In this film directed by Hanny R Saputra, Donny Alamsyah portrays a person who works as a body washer. In fact, long before the shooting process, he had already learned how to bathe the body thanks to a request from his late father named Benjamin Junaedi.
"My father has passed away. One year before he passed away, my father asked me to learn how to bathe the body because he wanted his child to bathe him when he passed away. So suddenly there was such a request," said Donny.
From learning how to bathe the body, Donny Alamsyah learned the sequence. At that point, he felt that bathing the body is not something mystical because it is done to respect the deceased.
"I learned the sequence of how to bathe. After learning it, it turns out that bathing the body is not a mystical or scary thing. In my opinion, it is the last respect for the deceased. Because the way we treat the deceased needs to be done with love, gentleness, and respect," Donny explained.
However, when his father passed away in September 2019, Donny was unable to bathe him because he was shooting a film. But what he had learned was never forgotten.
