'GHOST LECTURER' Adapted from a Viral Story, Director Guntur Soeharjanto Acknowledges Difficulty in Making Horror but the Ghost is Male

Kapanlagi.com - Director Guntur Soeharjanto has been entrusted to helm the horror film titled GHOST LECTURER, which is adapted from a popular urban legend. Although it is not the first horror film he has made, this film provides a new experience for him.

How could it not, Guntur is challenged to create a terrifying experience for the audience through a male ghost, whereas many horror films are often associated with terror from female ghosts.

"This is the most different horror film I have ever made. Because the ghost is male, which is really hard to figure out how to create it. But because the viral story indeed features a male lecturer, we really discussed with the producer and the writer on how to create a male ghost that must be as frightening as a female ghost," said Guntur at a press conference at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, Thursday (8/8).

1. Horror Concept Illustrated

To create a terrifying male ghost, Guntur Soeharjanto discussed carefully with producer Dheeraj Kalwani. He sent several concepts until they finally agreed on what we have now.

"We really illustrated the horror concept and developed it together. If it’s not scary, we scratch it out; if it’s not scary like this, we scratch it out," said Guntur Soeharjanto.

2. Difficult to Find the Right Actor

Not stopping at finding terrifying visuals, the selection of the actor to play the ghost was also not easy. Guntur Soeharjanto is grateful to have found the veteran actor Egi Fedly because he was able to bring to life what was laid out in the initial concept.

"Even finding Om Egi was like finding a needle in a haystack. We were confused about who the right male actor would be. Finally, we found Om Egi and what we hoped for was in Om Egi," concluded Guntur Soeharjanto.
