Indonesia Showcases Its Talent at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival with 6 Selected Films, Jumbo Among Them

On this occasion, Indonesia will not only be an audience but will also showcase its six best films.

The Minister of Culture Fadli Zon expressed his pride in the achievements of Indonesian cinema. He emphasized that Indonesia's presence at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival is not just about existence, but a tangible proof of progress and the collaborative spirit of the domestic film industry.

1. JUMBO

As a film that successfully reached around 10 million viewers, JUMBO is ready to proudly represent Indonesia at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. This animated film directed by Ryan Adriandhy and more than 400 animators will be screened at Marche du Film.

The film JUMBO tells the story of a boy named Don (Prince Poetiray) who is determined to prove his abilities by showcasing a talent performance inspired by the fairy tale book inherited from his parents. However, in the midst of his struggle, he faces a problem when his friend, Atta (M. Adhiyat), steals the book.

2. PANGKU

Reza Rahadian officially makes his directorial debut with a film titled PANGKU, which will be released around the third quarter of 2025. This film has attracted attention by winning the White Light Post-Production Award from JAFF Future Project 2024 and being selected for the HAF Goes to Cannes 2025 program.

The film PANGKU will be featured at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 to seek international collaboration partners. Reza also expressed his gratitude for the support of the Ministry of Culture towards the Indonesian film industry, which he believes is a great motivation to continue creating and bringing local films to the world stage.

3. BLOOD TIES

Producer Iko Uwais showcases his achievements through the film Blood Ties at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. Through Uwais Pictures, director Sidahrta Tata is ready to introduce Indonesian work to the international arena.

Highlighting the cultural theme of martial arts, Blood Ties tells the story of a former pencak silat athlete who struggles to save his family from debt and "land leeches". This film will star several famous actors such as Derby Romeo, Livi Ciananta, Ismi Melinda, and Teuku Rifnu Wikana.

4. HAIR FACTORY MONSTER

The latest film by Edwin titled Hair Factory Monster (international title Sleep No More) is set to appear at Marche du Film during the Cannes Film Festival 2025. Produced by Palari Films, this film is the result of a cross-country co-production involving Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and Germany.

At the world's largest film market, Hair Factory Monster is represented by the South Korean international sales agent, ShowBox. Starring Rachel Amanda, Iqbaal Ramadhan, and Sal Priadi, this film presents a chilling mystery surrounding strange events in a hair factory.

5. THE MORNING JOURNEY

Legendary actress Christine Hakim once again steals attention on the international stage through her debut as a producer in the film The Mourning Journey. Directed by Garin Nugroho and starring Reza Rahadian, this film becomes one of the Indonesian works showcased at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.

Produced by the production house Visinema, The Mourning Journey marks Christine Hakim's return to Cannes after her major success with Tjoet Nja' Dhien in 1989. This film tells an emotional story about a mother who embarks on a spiritual journey to find the meaning of life after losing her child.

6. RENOIR

The film Renoir is one of Indonesia's pride at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 as it successfully entered the main competition. Directed by Chie Hayakawa from Japan, this film is an international collaboration project between Japan, Indonesia, France, the Philippines, and Singapore, with KawanKawan Media representing Indonesia.

Behind the scenes, Renoir involves two producers from Indonesia, Yulia Evina Bhara and Amerta Kusuma, who also collaborated on this project. Not only as producers, Yulia is also trusted to be one of the judges at Semaine de La Critique.
