Luna Maya Claims She Nearly Drowned While Filming 'SUZZANNA: SANTET DOSA DI ATAS DOSA'

Luna Maya initially felt that the scene was safe. Eventually, Maxime Bouttier's wife decided to do it herself without the help of a stunt double.

"There was one incident that was quite tense. At the end of the river, I wasn't using a stunt. Because there was a current, it went down like a small waterfall. What I didn't anticipate was that if it was a waterfall, there was a swirl of water underneath," said Luna Maya when met in the Kebon Sirih area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

The situation turned panicky when Luna's body was truly caught in the water. The costume, wig, and prosthetic makeup she was wearing absorbed water and made her body very heavy, making it difficult to rise to the surface.

"That was a roll. And I also didn’t expect that wig, that outfit, and that face would pull me back into the water again. I was like, it felt like being rolled, rolled. Every second I was like... I’m gonna die here," she recalled seriously.

Luna admitted that she had surrendered to the current in the water until she finally found a rock to push herself up. Director Azhar Kinoi Lubis and her co-star, Reza Rahadian, who witnessed the incident, also expressed their shock and concern.

"And the hardest part is when you're in the water with prosthetics, your nose is covered. It’s really hard to breathe. So it was very torturous. And when they saw it, 'Sis, you were probably in there for 30 seconds, right?','" added Luna.

Although it requires risking her life, Luna Maya feels satisfied to give her best for this film. SUZZANNA: SANTET DOSA DI ATAS DOSA is scheduled to be released in theaters starting March 18, 2026, coinciding with the Eid celebration.
