Kapanlagi.com - Director Yusron Fuadi premiered his second film at the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) 2023. The science fiction horror film is titled SETAN ALAS!.
The film, starring Anastasia Herzigova and Adhin Abdul Hakim, gained attention for its unique and comedic story, rather than being scary. Yusron revealed that SETAN ALAS! is his way of showing his love for the horror genre.
"In this film, I want to celebrate all the horror films ever made on this earth. I love them all, but there are some that are frustrating, with unclear main characters, and I encounter that a lot in horror films. This is my way of loving cinema, loving horror films," Yusron said at Empire XXI, Yogyakarta, on Monday (27/11).
The film SETAN ALAS! tells the story of a group of young people on vacation at a haunted villa. From that cliché premise, Yusron Fuadi, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Anindita Suryarasmi, turned it into an unpredictable story.
"The film that inspired me was actually THE MATRIX, a film that questions our world. From there, I mixed it with horror and meta because it's rare. That's where I stand," Yusron said.
In the film SETAN ALAS!, Yusron Fuadi invited Hanung Bramantyo to participate in an unexpected role. Yusron admitted that it was not too difficult to persuade Hanung to participate.
"Mas Hanung, I don't need to convince him to collaborate, he won't even read the script if I send it to him. He said, 'Karepmu, when is the shooting, I will come to your rented house,'" said Yusron.
