Sandiaga Uno Optimistic about Creating Job Opportunities and Reviving the Creative Economy in the Film Industry through Family Sunday Movie

Kapanlagi.com - Sandiaga Uno as the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) continues to make various efforts to revive the Indonesian economy. One example is in the film industry, where Sandiaga Uno introduces the Family Sunday Movie (FSM) program.

FSM has proven successful in attracting the interest of filmmakers, with at least 215 films registering within just 11 days, from February 2 to 12, 2022. Sandiaga Uno is certainly pleased to see such enthusiasm.

"It can be said that this is evidence that Family Sunday Movie is one of the right-targeted, useful, and beneficial programs of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, especially for regional filmmakers," said Sandiaga Uno on Monday (21/2/2022).

1. Open Opportunities to Create Jobs

Through FSM, regional filmmakers have a platform to distribute their works, have equal opportunities, experience competition, sharpen their skills to produce better works, and open up opportunities to create as many jobs as possible.

For example, to produce just one film, a community would need around 30 people. This means that in the first month alone, around 6,450 workers were absorbed. "That's why the film industry is one of the subsectors that has proven to quickly absorb a lot of workers, has a multiplier effect to accelerate economic recovery, and contributes to empowering and self-reliance of the community," he added.

2. Democratic Film Festival

Emil Heradi, as the Chairman of FSM Committee, also expressed similar sentiments. He mentioned that the event arose from the concerns of short film enthusiasts who lacked attention and did not have a recognized space in Indonesia.

"FSM is a democratic film festival, where everyone has equal opportunities to express themselves and achieve success," said Emil.

Emil himself did not expect such high public enthusiasm for this festival. Almost every region from Sabang to Merauke submitted their works, and there were even many local filmmakers who registered more than 2 films.

3. Best Film to be Announced on February 24, 2022

After going through the selection and curation stages, the title of the second-best film in February was achieved by the film titled Gemintang directed by Irfan Akbar, produced by Gresik Movie community.

"We will announce the first-place winner of the best film at the Meet & Greet event virtually on Thursday, February 24," explained Emil Heradi.

As the Chairman of the Committee, Emil hopes that more local filmmakers will register films with original ideas and unique and interesting storylines. "FSM will be a companion for participants, and those who have not been able to participate this month can register their works next month. Registration will be reopened from March 2 to 12.
