"I have prepared this story for ten years. I didn't want to work on it in 2009 because, as you know, this film requires a very delicate level of technical and aesthetic aspects. We only started production after ten years. This is the day I've been waiting for," said Joko Anwar.
This film highlights the story of Maya (Tara Basro) who returns to her village accompanied by her friend, Dini (Marissa Anita). Instead of family warmth, Maya and Dini find their souls threatened.
Joko Anwar and the cast themselves admitted that they have been getting goosebumps since reading the script. Joko Anwar's mission is to create a horror film that is chilling enough to enter the minds and hearts of the audience.
Christine Hakim is trusted to portray the character of Nyi Misni, the local shaman. According to Joko's testimony in an interview with Raditya Dika, Christine Hakim experienced a transformation while acting.
In addition to the characters Maya and Dini, there is also the character Ratih (Asmara Abigail). Her character has given chills in the trailer with the dialogue 'can you feel it?'.
