Sensation! Film 'VINA: SEBELUM 7 HARI' Accused of Exploiting Tragedy, Anggy Umbara Asks Opposing Party to Respect Filmmaker's Creative Decision

Kapanlagi.com - The crime horror film titled VINA: SEBELUM 7 HARI will be shown in cinemas throughout Indonesia starting May 8th. In recent times, since the release of the poster and teaser trailer, some parties have expressed their opposition because the film is considered to exploit the tragedy.

Dheeraj Kalwani, the producer, apparently monitored the uproar. He stated that the promotional material was made because it truly happened to the late Vina.

"That's what we made the promotional material from. Those who oppose it should watch the film first," said Dheeraj in a press conference at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, Thursday (18/4/2024).

Anggy Umbara as the director said he observed the public's reactions. He respects the comments made by the opposing party. Therefore, he requests that his creative decisions and all parties involved be respected as well.

"We live in a diverse country. It's not just my film, but many films face pros and cons, some people like it and some don't, some have different principles and ideologies. We respect that and hopefully they also respect us who have different principles from them, have different thoughts, feelings, and sensibilities or moralities," Anggy emphasized on the same occasion.

2. Having Good Intentions

Anggy said that he made VINA: SEBELUM 7 HARI with good intentions to speak out about bullying. There was absolutely no thought to exploit the tragedy as accused.

"We started with good intentions. Our goal is good. I believe this film will bring goodness. We respect those who oppose us, but we also hope that you respect us," Anggy firmly stated.

VINA: SEBELUM 7 HARI is adapted from a true story that shook Cirebon, West Java. Where a girl named Vina became a victim of rape and murder committed by a motorcycle gang in 2016. Until now, the family feels that there has been no justice for Vina because the perpetrator has not been caught.
