Starting from Concern, Producer Reveals Reasons Behind the Making of the Film 'MERAH PUTIH ONE FOR ALL'

Kapanlagi.com - The emergence of the animated film MERAH PUTIH ONE FOR ALL amidst the celebration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia becomes a new oasis in the national film industry. Endiarto, as the executive producer of the film Merah Putih One for All, revealed that the initial idea for making this film was born from a simple unease he felt every year.

According to him, the celebration on August 17 has always been lively in various regions, but ironically, there has been no film specifically made to commemorate that proclamation moment. Endiarto felt called to fill that void along with other creative workers. He further explained the unease that became the main trigger for this project.

"The idea came after August 17 last year. So we responded to the fact that we are concerned there has been no segmented film for Merah Putih during the August 17 proclamation event. But there is festivity, there are celebrations. In villages, in towns. Well, for films, we don’t have any," said Endiarto when met at Umar Ismail, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Tuesday (12/8/2025).

1. Full of Burning Spirit

With a burning spirit, Endiarto and his colleagues at the Usmar Ismail Film Center began to think of a concept. However, he realized that good intentions alone were not enough, as there were significant challenges to face, especially regarding funding. He recounted how these limitations became their first obstacle.

"Well, we, the creative workers of Indonesian cinema at the Usmar Ismail Center, feel called, what is it? How can we not do this? We can, we are capable. The only weakness is that we don't have funding. Because we are not a big corporation and we don't have a backer," he explained.

2. The Gotong Royong Concept

From here, the gotong royong concept began to take shape, where this project no longer relied on large capital strength. Endiarto then started approaching some of his colleagues to propose this crazy idea.

There was one main condition, that this project was not a commercial project. He openly communicated this from the beginning.

"So I gathered some of my friends to offer, do you want to? This project is not commercial, we have nothing," said Endiarto.

"If you ask for a number upfront, sorry to say, that's it. There are some who have already done that, so we look for others," he continued.

Ultimately, this project is based on good intentions and a spirit of contributing to the nation. Endiarto emphasized that this film is a manifestation of a sincere desire to provide something real for the country,

despite all the existing limitations. For him, this is their way of celebrating independence.

"Well, the idea came from our good intentions, then we looked for a team that wanted to collaborate with us. Without a contract, without anything. Because we kept saying this is for this, you know. That's it," said Endiarto.

"If you expect more than this, sorry. We can't, this is all there is. We can provide our existence as a nation's child, a real contribution," he continued.

6. The Main Purpose of This Animated Film

He also added that the main purpose of this film is to participate in celebrating Independence Day. According to him, this work was born from a collective spirit amidst the limitations they have.

"For what? To celebrate this. From our spirit of limitation, this is what came to be," concluded Endiarto.

Endiarto emphasized that this film is specifically designed for children's consumption. Therefore, all elements in the film, including the title, are carefully thought out to align with their world. He hopes that, with this approach, national messages can be conveyed in a more enjoyable way.

"So, just to make it familiar in the middle, in the ears not for us, but for the children, you know. This is for children's consumption, not for adults, teenagers, let alone us parents," he concluded.
