DILAN 1983: WO AI NI tells the story of Dilan's childhood at the age of 12. At the age of 12, he accompanied his father on duty in East Timor, or formerly known as Timor Timur. He lived there for 1.5 years before returning to Bandung and attending his old school.
In 1983, Dilan met a new student named Mei Lien from Semarang who is of Chinese ethnicity. Mei Lien's presence intrigued Dilan and he wanted to learn Mandarin. His desire surprised his family.
