Sartika (Claresta Taufan), a single mother, is trying to rise from the lowest point of her life to step into a better future.Â
Her journey takes her to the northern coastal area of Java island. She meets Bu Maya (Christine Hakim), the owner of a coffee shop who appears to be full of care.
Whether she likes it or not, Sartika chooses to work as a coffee shop girl to support herself and her child.
In the midst of her struggles, Sartika meets Hadi (Fedi Nuril), a truck driver transporting fish who brings a new color to her life journey.
Hadi appears to be a caring and attentive figure towards Sartika and her child. Bu Maya also gives the green light to their relationship. Â
The inspiration for creating Pangku originated from Reza Rahadian's experience while filming in the northern coastal area of Java in 2020.
This film also marks the directorial debut of Reza Rahadian for a feature film after previously being widely known as an actor. Previously, Reza had worked on the short film Sebelah (2011) and the series Sementara, Selamanya (2020).
