The Film 'PESUGIHAN SATE GAGAK' Presents a Mystical Story with a Touch of Comedy and Social Critique

Director Etienne Caesar explained that PESUGIHAN SATE GAGAK is not just filled with funny and tense scenes. "This film has relatable issues, there is friendship, there is a mother-son relationship, and its economic value is strong," said Etienne Caesar at a press conference at XXI Epicentrum, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Wednesday (11/5/2025).

The story in this film centers around three young people named Dimas, Anto, and Indra who are facing economic pressure. In desperation, they are tempted to take shortcuts through pesugihan, without understanding the dark consequences that await. From here, a blend of comedy, horror, and the bitterness of life comes together, presenting a unique cinematic experience.

Director Dono Pradana revealed his challenges in directing the main cast, all of whom are comedians, such as Ardit Erwandha, Yono Bakrie, and Benedictus Siregar. He emphasized the importance of emotional depth behind each scene so that the characters they portray feel real.

"If you want to convey emotion in every scene, you have to relate to what you're acting. For example, if we're pressed by economic issues," said Dono.

Producer Aoura Lovenson explained that from the beginning, the creative team wanted to combine a mystical theme with fresh humor. "This concept is about pesugihan. From the start, the concept of pesugihan has an absurd element where the one buying the demon's satay must be naked. If the demon likes it and the satay runs out, they will be the ones eaten by the demon. So there is indeed a comedic element in the mechanics of pesugihan," said Aoura.

This film not only presents a thrilling story about pesugihan but also depicts the economic dilemmas often faced by society. Through funny yet realistic characters, PESUGIHAN SATE GAGAK attempts to raise social reflections about human choices in the midst of life's limitations.
