Trailer and Poster for the Film KUYANK Officially Released, Highlighting Love That Turns Into a Curse

The film KUYANK officially launched its trailer and poster at a press conference held at Signature Park Grande, Jakarta, on Monday (22/12/2025). This launch serves as an initial introduction to the horror folklore film that raises issues of domestic conflict, cultural pressures, and social norms that constrain life choices.

The launch momentum feels relevant as it coincides with Mother's Day. KUYANK places the female character at the center of the story, highlighting the struggle to maintain a household when love must confront family demands and increasingly oppressive cultural beliefs.

The official trailer of KUYANK showcases a slowly growing tension. Emotional conflict serves as the foundation of the story before horror emerges as a consequence. The mounting pressure makes the escape route feel increasingly narrow for the main character.

This approach emphasizes that KUYANK does not rely on instant terror. Horror arises as a result of human conflicts that are close to the reality of many people, especially in family and household relationships.

The identity of folklore horror is reinforced through the official poster. The visual of Kuyank emerging from a barrel in the midst of a foggy wooden house creates the impression that terror comes from something that has long been kept and ultimately explodes.

The marker "Saranjana The Prequel" on the poster also emphasizes the interconnectedness of the KUYANK story with a broader universe, while enriching the mythology presented in this film.

The film's producer, Victor G. Pramusinto, emphasizes that the main focus of KUYANK is to build the audience's empathy towards the characters before bringing them into a sense of fear.

"In KUYANK, terror does not come suddenly. It grows from suppressed love, from increasingly narrow decisions, until it eventually turns into a curse. We want the audience to care first about the human aspect, because that’s where the fear feels real," he said at a press conference in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Monday (22/12).

Meanwhile, the director Johansyah Jumberan mentioned that folklore is used as the root of the story, but the emotions raised are universal and easily felt.

"What we highlight is folklore as the root, but the emotions are universal. KUYANK talks about love and pressure, about family, and about boundaries that, if crossed, can change everything," he said.

The female lead, Putri Intan Kasela, also revealed the emotional challenges in building a character that is pressured by various stresses.

"The most challenging part is building that sense of 'being trapped.' Because when the pressure peaks, the audience will understand why the fear and despair in this film feel personal," she said. The film KUYANK is scheduled to be released simultaneously in theaters across Indonesia starting January 29, 2026.
