Unique Facts about Indonesian Superhero Series 'TIRA', Chelsea Islan Once Possessed and Had to Confront Her Phobia During Filming

After the success of superhero films such as SRI ASIH, GUNDALA, and VIRGO AND THE SPARKLINGS, Bumilangit Cinematic Universe now introduces a new local superhero named Tira. The series TIRA premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on Saturday, December 16, 2023. This series is an adaptation of the popular comic TIRA and is the first live-action superhero series with 8 episodes from the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe, produced by Joko Anwar.

The fourth installment of the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe is portrayed by Chelsea Islan as the main character named Suci. In this series, Suci is depicted as a talented stuntwoman whose life changes due to a deadly curse she receives after saving nine children from a mysterious ritual.

With her condition, Suci must balance her busy life between maintaining her achievements at university, building her career, and trying to save her own life. She does all of this until the situation becomes more complicated due to secret wars and mysterious ancient powers.

1. Chelsea Islan Possessed During Filming

In an interview with Narasi, Chelsea Islan revealed that she experienced possession while filming the series TIRA. The shooting took place near sunset on a rooftop of an abandoned hospital.

"According to my co-star, whose name I can't reveal yet, my eyes turned red with circular redness. At that time, I felt like I was possessed for two minutes, so I wasn't myself during that scene and it was captured on camera," said Chelsea Islan.

2. Having Its Own Fictional Language

The series TIRA uses its own fictional language similar to what was used in the GAME OF THRONES or HARRY POTTER films. In the trailer, there are unfamiliar phrases to the audience, such as "Armeh Luh Irashami". It turns out that the phrase is a special fictional language created by Bumilangit Cinematic Universe. Ian Adiwibowo, the writer of the series TIRA, created the phrase which means "Our imprisoned or confined mother."

Interesting fact about the main character and actress, Chelsea Islan, who plays Suci, is that they both have a common fear of heights.

"Suci is afraid of heights, she has acrophobia (fear of heights) and it's exactly the same as me," said Chelsea Islan during a press conference.

4. Egi Fedly Shaved Off His Hair for His Role in the TIRA Series

In this series project, Egi Fedly, who plays as Chelsea Islan's enemy, did something he rarely does when joining another shooting project. But in the TIRA series, he willingly shaved off all his hair and went bald.

5. Production Started During the Pandemic

This TIRA series production apparently began during the Covid-19 pandemic or around 2020. Development projects and research were conducted online, including the research process for the appearance of the Javanese dragon in this series.
