The Mission Impossible film is one of the legendary franchise films that has been released since 1996. Basically, the Mission Impossible film itself is an adaptation of the same titled television series, which aired from 1966 to 1973.

1. Mission Impossible (1996)

The first film to watch in the Mission Impossible series is the film that was first released in 1996. This film is based on the TV series from 1966 to 1973. The first Mission Impossible film is directed by Brian De Palma.

This film tells the story of the killing of all the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) agents, and only Ethan Hunt survives. IMF suspects that the deaths of all their agents were caused by Ethan Hunt. He seeks the real culprit to prevent the tragedy from happening again and clear his name. 

2. Mission Impossible II (2000)

The next film in the series is the sequel released four years after the first film, Mission Impossible II. In this second film, Hunt is assigned to dispose of a biochemical weapon called Chimera. 

His opponent in this film is Sean Ambrose, a former IMF agent, who created the biochemical weapon to cause a pandemic worldwide. He also created an antidote from the weapon to use as a business venture. Ethan stops this cycle and secures Chimera and its antidote.

3. Mission Impossible III (2006)

The third sequel released in 2006, and directed by J.J. Abrams, comes as the third film in the Mission Impossible series. There is a new character as Ethan's fiancée, Julia Meade. Benji also appears in this film as an IMF technician. 

In this sequel, Hunt is depicted as wanting to retire from the IMF and live with Julia Meade. However, a world-class arms dealer, Owen Davian, kidnaps Julia and attempts to kill Ethan. Finally, Ethan is forced to return and undertake a dangerous mission to save his lover. 

4. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)

The fourth Mission Impossible film has a different title from the previous three films. This time, the Mission Impossible film does not feature numeric symbols in the title. Ethan Hunt and his new team track down Hendricks, who is a dangerous terrorist with access to Russian nuclear launches. 

The nuclear weapons will be used to attack the United States (US). Ethan's team tries to stop him at the Kremlin, but unfortunately, Hendricks escapes. Ethan and his team chase Hendricks to Dubai and Mumbai in order to thwart his terrorist plans. 

5. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015)

The fifth Mission Impossible film tells the story of how Ethan Hunt and his team carry out a mission to eliminate an international organization consisting of former agents from various secret services of several countries. This organization is led by Solomon Lane, a former agent of the British secret service, MI6. 

In his mission, Ethan is accused of being responsible for the assassination of the Chancellor of Austria. In addition, he must also uncover the international criminal syndicate, Syndicate, and clear his name in the incident of the Chancellor of Austria's murder.

6. Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018)

Film Mission Impossible: Fallout is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, which is the sixth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. Interestingly, Tom Cruise will produce this film along with J. J. Abrams, Jake Myers, and Christopher McQuarrie. This film also introduces a new character named John Lark, played by Henry Cavill. 

This film premiered on July 12, 2018, in Paris and was released in the United States on July 27, 2018. This sixth sequel presents the story after the capture of Solomon Lane. Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, is tasked with preventing the international terrorist group 'Apostles' from selling three Russian plutonium cores to John Lark. 

7. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (2023)

In addition to the six films that have been released from 1996 to 2018, there is one Mission Impossible film that must be watched by cinema fans. The film is the seventh sequel of Mission Impossible titled Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One. This seventh Mission Impossible film is planned to be released in 2023.

The actors involved in this film are Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Simon Pegg. In this film, Ethan must track down a new weapon that threatens the fate of humanity before the weapon falls into the wrong hands. Ethan must face a mysterious enemy named Gabriel and Paris. What will the excitement be like?
